Self-help groups, also known as mutual help, mutual aid, or support groups, are groups of people who provide mutual support for each other. In a self-help group, the members share a common problem, often a common disease or addiction. Their mutual goal is to help each other to deal with, if possible to heal or to recover from, this problem.

 

South Asia Centre for Medical Physics and Cancer Research (SCMPCR) introduced Self-Help group of cancer patient first time in Bangladesh. SCMPCR has made a community of self-group where the same types of a cancer patient can discuss with each people. This self-group member can help each other, can share their cancer experience and especially, support each other which may enhance the mental strength of cancer patients. Currently, SCMPCR offers five types of a cancer Self-Help group for the Bangladeshi cancer patient. These Self-Help groups are,

 

Breast cancer Self-Help group of SCMPCR (BCSHG-SCMPCR)
Prostate cancer Self-Help group of SCMPCR (PCSHG-SCMPCR)
Lung cancer Self-Help group of SCMPCR (LCSHG-SCMPCR)
Cervix cancer Self-Help group of SCMPCR (CCSHG-SCMPCR)
Head & Neck cancer Self-Help group of SCMPCR (HNCSHG-SCMPCR)
